NBC4 puppy Paris officially graduated as a Canine Companions service dog. After more than a year in the NBC4 studio and five months of professional training, Paris will now help his partner with quadriplegia live life more independently.

Engle, a yellow Lab/golden retriever mix, joins Baylor Scott & White All Saints as the newest facility dog through a partnership with Canine Companions. “The sky’s the limit in terms of how Engle can serve our patients,” said Charles Williams, president, Baylor Scott & White – Fort Worth. “She’s already making a positive impact at our facility.”

CBS News covered the need for puppy raisers to prepare future service dogs in a segment airing nationwide, including on CBS Morning News.

“Having a dog around just makes the whole day better,” said Dr. Julia Rosenstock, a Mt. Washington Pediatric attending pediatrician. “There are so many things that a kid won’t do for us that they’ll do for a dog.”

Hampton Bays resident Dorothy Marino is currently raising Jabba, a black lab puppy, for Canine Companions. After several months with Marino, Jabba will move on to professional training as a service dog for the nationwide organization, which is currently seeking more volunteer puppy raisers

Canine Companions future service dog Pauley, along with raisers Audrey and Kyubin, made his first trip to a UCLA basketball game on December 7.
