When Lieutenant Nick Nicholas, Seal Beach Police Department’s public information officer, found out about Canine Companions facility dogs, he immediately thought back to the salon massacre that killed eight people, and how valuable a highly trained dog would have been for the victims’ families in the days and weeks after it occurred. Lieutenant Nicholas was matched with Facility Dog Yosa in February 2021, and along with her fellow facility dogs, she offers both comfort and task-related support, such as providing deep pressure to victims under stress during witness interviews.

2021 was another year full of success stories, thanks to the generous support from our community of volunteers, staff, partners and donors! From amazing fundraising campaigns to more service dog placements across the country, the year was filled with 365 days of proud accomplishments.

Support the Paws Off Act to ensure products containing xylitol are clearly labeled for the safety of all dogs, including our puppies and service dogs. This artificial sweetener is poisonous to dogs and is found in many everyday products without clear labeling.

Now through March 31, World of Beer is giving their participating locations and their customers a chance to create good in their communities! They are donating $1 from the sale of every featured beer and $1 for every Tito’s Sparking Greyhound cocktail to Canine Companions.
