February 2024 eNews

Love is always in the air when you’re with Canine Companions service and facility dogs! Our dogs are bred, raised and trained with extra TLC, and they’re always ready to lead with love and offer greater independence. Help provide more expertly trained working dogs and a lifetime of follow-up services, completely free of charge, to children, adults and veterans in our communities. For a limited time, your donation is automatically matched, dollar for dollar, up to $100,000.

On Friday, February 9, 2024, we’re hosting this year’s first National Graduation Day – a celebration marking the start of new journeys for service dogs and their lifelong, human partners. From coast to coast, six graduations will each bring together puppy raisers, clients and community members for unforgettable ceremonies. Join us in person or watch our livestream.

It’s clearer skies ahead for air travelers with disabilities. A new committee was created to improve the travel experience for those who use assistive technology, including service dogs. Thanks to Southwest Airlines, our long-time partner, Canine Companions is on the Airlines for America Customer Accessibility Advisory Committee (CAAC), providing real-life experience to design effective solutions.

For veterans living with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a dog may be much more than a best friend. A first-of-its-kind study aims to shed light on the impact of service dogs – trained in specific tasks to mitigate symptoms of PTSD – on quality of life and clinical outcomes.
