Client Privacy Statement

Our mission is to serve individuals with disabilities, and that means their data and personal information is important to us and is kept in a secure environment.  We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect the confidentiality and security of all client data that is transmitted to us.

We collect multiple categories of personal information from our clients to evaluate and process their applications.  “Personal Information” encompasses personally identifiable information about our clients that they voluntarily provide to us, such as first/middle initial or name, last name, e-mail address, street address, mailing address if different, town or city, state, zip code, telephone number, date of birth, credit card information, and any other information that would allow someone to identify or contact our clients, including information collected through cookies and other technology. 

As part of Canine Companions’ application process, other ”Sensitive Information” may be requested as a necessary part of the assessment and evaluation of each individual applicant.  This information may include medical records, disability information, and other confidential medical information.  Canine Companions maintains strict confidentiality of all Personal and Sensitive Information provided by applicants to the Canine Companions’ program.  This information is not shared with anyone other than (1) the professional staff of the agency involved in evaluating the applicant and/or providing services to the applicant, and (2) the secure vendor environment where we store this information.  We do not share client data with third parties for any reason without the express consent of the individual, their legal representative or when the law or a court compels us to do so.  We may share the data with our vendors and service providers for the sole purpose of processing your application.

Photos and videos that include clients are not shared without the client or their legal guardian signing a waiver of consent for photos of their likeness to be shared publicly.  Clients are also contacted in advance for their express permission regarding any story that involves them.  We make sure that the client is comfortable with all information that will be shared especially when it relates to any information regarding their disability.

This statement applies solely to the information provided to Canine Companions by clients or applicants in their capacity as a client or applicant.  If a client volunteers, donates, visits the Canine Companions website, or otherwise engages with or provides information to Canine Companions, the information provided is used and stored in accordance with Canine Companions’ Privacy Policy.
