Teresa Johnson Ramey, Board Member

Woman seating on a bench next to a service dogDr. Teresa Johnson Ramey met her first Canine Companions dog on the campus of Francis Marion University, where the beautiful canine Edna was being raised and trained by faculty member Kathy McCoy. That connection got her involved with volunteer Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion consulting and training with Canine Companions, and she later was asked to join the Inclusion and Diversity Committee.

Teresa is a higher education administrator with over 30 years of experience working at various colleges and universities, mainly in student affairs, leadership development, and diversity and inclusion.

Moving from being fearful of dogs to having rescued two dogs, Teresa still remembers and empathizes with the different perspectives and cultural aspects when interacting with dogs. “I’m excited about serving this organization and contributing to building pathways to help others in need of assistance and companionship, and I can think of no other way but through the compassion of a dog.”
