NBC4 Columbus is preparing to welcome a new member to the team – puppy Boone!
Boone is the station’s fifth future service dog Puppy on a Mission in partnership with Canine Companions.
Boone will appear in the NBC4 studio for the Friday morning newscasts beginning on April 10, allowing viewers to follow his journey to becoming a service dog for an adult, child or veteran with a disability.
NBC4’s most recent Puppy on a Mission, Paris, graduated in February with his partner Josh. They live and work together in Indiana.
Later that month, NBC4 asked their viewers to help name the station’s new puppy. After tallying more than 800 votes, viewers chose the name ‘Boone.’
Boone is named after Boone Jenner, the longtime captain of the Columbus Blue Jackets, Ohio’s National Hockey League team.
NBC4 reporters noted that Jenner embodies leadership, grit and determination, all characteristics that help service dogs succeed.
Puppy Boone was born on Jan. 31 alongside his two brothers and four sisters. They are all Labrador-Golden Retriever crosses.
Boone is an easygoing puppy who loves adventuring and exploring new things. He also loves attention from both his siblings and his people.
Before he arrives at the NBC4 studio, Boone will be featured on the Canine Companions live Puppy Cam from March 23 through March 27.
Viewers can tune in to watch Boone romp and play with his siblings all week long. Boone will be wearing the blue collar.
