Naples, Fla. A dedicated group of supporters in the Naples community came together for a powerful evening of philanthropy, raising $400,000 in support of Canine Companions and its mission to provide expertly trained service dogs to people with disabilities at no cost.
The fundraising event, hosted by John and Kristin Miller at the prestigious Bay Colony Golf Club, brought together local residents, program graduates, and volunteers who share a passion for expanding independence and opportunity through service dogs. John Miller, a national board member of Canine Companions, has been instrumental in growing support for the organization in Southwest Florida.
Since its inception in 2017, this event series has raised more than $1.6 million, underscoring the Naples community’s enduring commitment to the cause.
Funds raised this year will directly support the Canine Companions Southeast Region, helping to provide service dogs to adults, children and veterans with disabilities and facility dogs to professionals working in healthcare, criminal justice and educational settings.
The evening featured moving remarks from special guest speaker Daniel Mowery, who shared his personal journey alongside his service dog, Norwood. His story highlighted the profound impact these partnerships have on daily life. Chief Executive Officer Paige Mazzoni also addressed attendees, outlining the organization’s mission, future growth, and ongoing efforts to meet increasing demand nationwide.
In a significant step forward for local engagement, organizers also announced the recent establishment of a Naples chapter, led by resident Gregg Dewitt. The new chapter is expected to further strengthen community involvement and expand fundraising efforts in the region.
