In 2021, we placed 47 service dogs with veterans, including Service Dog Bernard, paired with Omar. Bernard is specially trained in physical tasks, including anxiety and nightmare interruption to mitigate the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The benefits of having a service dog have been immensely helpful for him, even beyond the help Bernard provides for his PTSD. “I live with a lot of trauma. Bernard is amazing. He’ll put his head on my lap during moments when I have anxiety triggers or I’m disconnected. He always brings me back. With Bernard, I can feel like myself,” Omar shares.

Canine Companions wants to help you find peace of mind and protect the people, dogs and causes you love. One easy way to do just that is to write a legal will — nearly 67% of American adults don’t have one, but it’s essential in planning your future.
Registration deadline for TEAM 2022 Volunteer Leadership Conference is June 21! Register now to join us in person in sunny San Diego, where you have the chance to meet fellow volunteers, share best practices and have some fun!
