We’re excited to announce that in collaboration with Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street, Canine Companions will be featured in an upcoming episode of the beloved children’s series! The heartwarming segment, “P is for Pets”, features nine-year-old Emmy and her Canine Companions service dog, Skip.
Emmy was born with cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair to get around, making some daily tasks more difficult. When Emmy and her family started the process to apply for a service dog from Canine Companions, they were hoping for a dog that would help bridge the social gap for Emmy and encourage other children to say ‘hello’. They found that and so much more in Service Dog Skip. Skip’s calming presence and love of retrieving dropped items allows Emmy to turn to Skip, rather than her parents or her peers for help.
The Sesame Street friends will learn about Service Dog Skip’s important role in his best buddy’s life – helping Emmy pick up things she’s dropped, helping her meet new friends and sharing endless snuggles. They’ll also learn how Emmy helps take care of Skip by brushing his fur, playing fetch and feeding him dinner.
This segment is another great opportunity to showcase the mission of Canine Companions and raise awareness of the great work service dogs do for children with disabilities.
The full “P is for Pets” episode is available to stream starting June 8 on Max (formerly HBO Max).
