Kevin Cullen, Colonel, US Air Force (Ret) – North Central Region

The North Central Region is proud to announce our regional volunteer award winner Kevin P. Cullen, Colonel, US Air Force (Ret). He currently serves on the North Central Region board and is the chair of the outreach committee. Additionally, he advances the mission of Canine Companions by hosting presentations on behalf of the organization and by providing financial support to fund our efforts. He began volunteering with an interest in helping the Canine Companions Veteran Initiative™, serving on a veterans committee in the North Central Region.

 

Col. Cullen is currently the assistant director and vice provost of Military and Veteran Services through the Office of Student Academic Success at The Ohio State University. Through this position, he has helped us connect with deans, students and leaders at the university to identify future partnership opportunities. His thoughtful and strategic approach to partnerships has led to new board members, new revenue sources and key volunteer leaders. In his role as the chair of our outreach committee, he leads 10 volunteers who represent seven different cities in our region. They are helping us connect with organizations, foundations and corporations to broaden our reach and fundraising efforts. He personally reached out to over 75 veterans organizations to help build awareness of our mission.

 

Engaging his family in our organization has also been a key component of Col. Cullen’s passion. They have donated their time by volunteering on numerous projects, such as assisting with facility maintenance, participating in DogFest North Central and contributing input towards naming opportunities of the new North Central Region campus.

 

We are incredibly lucky to have Col. Cullen as a part of our leadership team. He is always looking for ways to help us grow, and we appreciate his positive energy and insight. He is a champion who is approachable and authentic in every way and we are honored to recognize him with the regional volunteer award.
