Melinda Sowers, Vice President Canine Training and Client Services

Melinda Sowers with service dogMelinda began her career with Canine Companions in April 2004. She has held multiple roles during her time with the organization including helping individuals and families through the application process and working with our staff to provide ongoing support to graduates to ensure quality partnerships. Melinda was most recently the program director at the Southeast Region in Orlando, Florida supporting the puppy and client services programs and working closely with the executive director and training manager to coordinate all aspects of the program at the region.
 
Melinda holds a B. A. in sociology from Roanoke College and a M. A. in mental health counseling from Rollins College. She is a Licensed mental health counselor in the state of Florida. Prior to joining Canine Companions, Melinda was a job coach for persons with disabilities and an individual and family counselor at a local neighborhood community center.
 
Melinda is married and has two sons, ages 17 and 10. She has a released dog named Ludvig, aka Lou. She enjoys time at the beach, reading and family time. Melinda will be working from our Southeast Regional Training Center.
