Teresa Johnson Ramey, Board Member

Dr. Teresa Johnson Ramey: Smiling woman wearing a blue blazer and a pendant necklace, with short hair standing outdoors in front of trees and a building.Dr. Teresa Johnson Ramey met her first Canine Companion dog on the campus of Francis Marion University, where the beautiful canine Edna was being raised and trained by faculty member Kathy McCoy. That connection got her involved with volunteer Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion consulting and training with Canine Companions, and she later was asked to join the Inclusion and Diversity Committee.

Teresa is Vice President for Community, Diversity, and Inclusion at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia. She has over 30 years of experience in higher education, working at various colleges and universities, mainly in student affairs and community outreach.

Moving from being fearful of dogs to having rescued two dogs, Teresa still remembers and empathizes with the different perspectives and cultural aspects when interacting with dogs. “I’m excited about serving this organization and contributing to building pathways to help others in need of assistance and companionship, and I can think of no other way but through the compassion of a dog.”
