In recognition of its contributions to helping clients lead lives with greater independence, Access Services awarded Canine Companions with the 2025 Spirit of Accessibility Award.

Presented to “persons and organizations that have made significant contributions towards making transit more accessible” in Los Angeles County, Canine Companions was selected for the profound impact it is having in southern California including — but hardly limited to — aiding users of public transportation.

“In Southern California, Canine Companions’ impact extends beyond its training center,” says Matt Avancena, Director, Planning and Coordination for Access Services. “The organization collaborates with rehabilitation hospitals, veterans’ groups, and disability advocacy organizations.”

Canine Companions received the Spirit of Accessibility Award at a luncheon in downtown Los Angeles on Nov. 24, 2025, where clients and volunteers were in attendance.
