South Central Region – Maeve Cooney – 2025 Jack Warnock Award Winner
Congratulations to Maeve for winning the 2025 Jack Warnock Award! Maeve is a devoted Canine Companions volunteer who has transformed the lives of countless people and dogs through her unparalleled dedication, compassion and advocacy.
Since becoming a volunteer in 2002, Maeve has raised 18 puppies for Canine Companions, with many going on to impact lives as service dogs, hearing dogs and facility dogs. In addition to her own puppy raising efforts, Maeve teaches weekly puppy classes for other volunteer puppy raisers in the Austin community, as well as for the incarcerated puppy raisers in the prison programs at FCI Bastrop and FCC Three Rivers.
Maeve is also an active volunteer therapy dog handler, visiting a local nursing home with Therapy Dog Olive once a week.
In addition to supporting the existing Canine Companions community, Maeve is constantly working to increase advocacy and awareness and recruit new volunteers by conducting hundreds of home visits for prospective puppy raisers. The volunteers she has recruited over the years have multiplied her impact on the Canine Companions community in untold ways.
