Canine Companions
South Central Region
Welcome to the Lone Star Volunteer Chapter of Canine Companions. We are committed to empowering people with disabilities by providing expertly trained service dogs to adults, children, and veterans at no cost.
Established in 2015, our chapter serves the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) metropolitan area. We are proud to be an extension of the South Central Region Training Center in Irving, Texas, helping to expand Canine Companions’ presence in our DFW communities.
The Lone Star Chapter includes Canine Companions graduates, volunteers, puppy raisers, and donors who drive our mission and help Canine Companions lead with independence in Texas and beyond.
Join our community of volunteers in the South Central Region dedicated to positively impacting the lives of individuals with disabilities. Here are some ways you can support Canine Companions in and around Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas:
• Become a puppy raiser
• Provide care as a dog bather, foster or sitter
• Join an event committee, volunteer to support events, or get involved with our South Central Training Center hospitality team
• Volunteer your services with event photography, videography, or both
• Help facilitate community outreach and chapter operations
• Act as a campus docent at our South Central Training Center, engage members, and organize fundraisers
• Assist with data entry, front desk duties, and general office tasks
Group outings are essential for our puppies and raisers. We’d love for you to take a look at our calendar of events and join us at an upcoming outing!
Socialization is essential for all dogs, but especially for future service dogs in training with Canine Companions. The Lone Star Chapter plans regular outings for our puppies, their volunteer puppy raisers, and others interested in supporting Canine Companions. We’d love for you to attend! Contact us with any questions.
These outings help prepare Canine Companions’ puppies for their roles as service dogs by exposing them to diverse settings and new people. This socialization can build confidence and reduce anxiety, helping to ensure a puppy’s viability as a service dog candidate. Not only are the events fun and social, but they also provide a platform to raise public awareness for Canine Companions and our mission to help others lead with independence.
