Northwest Region
Formed in 1996, the Gold Rush Chapter is the largest volunteer chapter of Canine Companions. Comprised of Canine Companion graduate teams, puppy raisers, breeder caretakers, and DogFest supporters, we proudly serve the greater Gold Rush areas including Sacramento, CA and surrounding areas. Gold Rush members actively support Canine Companions by participating in community awareness programs and fundraising.

Members of the Vail Valley Chapter help spread awareness about the need for puppy raisers as part of the 2026 GoPro Mountain Games, June 4-7.
Paul Defendini is a volunteer puppy raiser and advocate for service dogs in schools, and on June 25 at Leonard’s Palazzo in Great Neck, Canine Companions will honor Defendini at the organization’s largest fundraiser in the region — Sit. Stay. Sparkle! Northeast.
