We provide service dogs to adults, children and veterans with disabilities and facility dogs to professionals working in healthcare, criminal justice and educational settings. Since our founding in 1975, our dogs and all follow-up services are provided at no cost to our clients. Help make this mission possible!

Jessica with service dog Ford

Meet this year's keynote speaker, Canine Companions graduate Jessica with service dog Ford:

When it comes to advocacy, Jessica Gardner wears many hats -- and, occasionally, a crown.

Jessica was dubbed Ms. Wheelchair Pennsylvania in 2021 and has used her platform to advocate for the disability community and service dog users ever since. Jessica now serves as Ambassador Coordinator for the organization, as well as Advocacy Coordinator for the South Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the United Spinal Association.

Among the organizations which Jessica dedicates her time, there is one in particular that holds a special place in her heart.

“Canine Companions is much more than a service dog organization,” says Jessica. “They are an extension of family.”

As a wheelchair user with Cerebral Palsy, Jessica’s mobility is limited. She sought out Canine Companions when it occurred to her that a service dog could assist with things that, at the time, Jessica was relying on human help for.

It was on her birthday in 2016 when Jessica officially graduated with her Canine Companions service dog, Ford.

“If I didn't have Ford, I wouldn't be able to get out of my apartment independently,” says Jessica. “When I'm out shopping, he gives me security, knowing that he's one command away from getting my debit card, purse, or wallet. I no longer have to depend on a random stranger.”

Meet Jessica and hear her full story when you attend Sit Stay Sparkle North Central on June 13, 2024.
