ABOUT

The Emerald Coast Volunteer Chapter of Canine Companions encompasses the Florida Panhandle, surrounding areas, Alabama and Mississippi.

Chapter members include graduates, volunteers, puppy raisers and donors who are enthusiastic about support the mission of Canine Companions – providing expertly trained service dogs for people with disabilities, free of charge.

Volunteer chapters raise awareness, recruit new puppy raisers and volunteers, and support one another’s work on behalf of the mission in many ways. We are a lively network filled with opportunities for social engagement, from puppy classes to fundraisers. Beyond the satisfaction of doing good work for a good cause, lifelong friendships are often formed among chapter members.

College Student Puppy Raiser’s Legacy Lives On

WSU junior Shannon Prendergast was killed in car accident in 2017, but the future service dog she was raising for Canine Companions survived the terrible crash. That puppy, Lottie, now works with Shannon’s mom at an elementary school in Woodinville, Wash. In Shannon’s memory, students at Washington State University formed Prendergast Pups, a club that has now raised 11 future service dogs on campus.
