Foster a Future Service Dog

Canine Companions provides service dogs to adults, children and veterans with disabilities and facility dogs to professionals working in healthcare, criminal justice and educational settings.

Volunteer fosters play a pivotal role in a Canine Companions service dog’s journey, by opening their hearts and their homes to the dogs in professional training at our Puget Sound Field Office.

Providing transportation to and from our field office in Seattle, volunteer fosters allow the dogs to be expertly trained by our instructors, while housing and caring for the dogs during the evenings and weekends.

Canine Companions is leading the service dog industry so our clients and their dogs can live with greater independence. We provide service dogs to adults, children and veterans with disabilities and facility dogs to professionals working in healthcare, criminal justice and educational settings. Since our founding in 1975, our dogs and all follow-up services are provided at no cost to our clients.

You have so much support with this program. The dogs are great and the community is great. We didn’t have to worry that we couldn’t do things like travel, Canine Companions has other fosters who can help out.”

– Emily Schmidt

“The best part of fostering is going to graduation, seeing the skills they’ve learned, and meeting the person they will be helping.”

– Liz Huntley
