Colorado Barn Event

Dear Friends,

I’ve been privileged to practice Emergency Medicine for the past 30 years. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, I have been more acutely aware of our highly skilled team providing care, and feel deep gratitude for my other frontline heroes keeping each other safe.

I feel the same sense of honor and gratitude to be involved with Canine Companions. We have all seen these incredible pups in action. Even Wynn, the Canine Companions puppy I am raising, has seen me through this pandemic with steadfast service. Imagine the comfort our graduates must feel to have our highly skilled dogs by their side during this unsettling time.

So it is with a heavy heart that I must cancel this year’s annual Barn Event, for the safety of all. Like you, I savored the last of the warm Colorado evenings with old and new friends. Your laughter and smiles filled my heart and the competitive dashes to the barn to secure your bids was fun to watch.

Next year will be an even grander Barn Event. We will need no reminder of our privilege and gratitude, celebrating the Canine Companions mission all together. I’m hoping you can still join me in support of our fundraising goal. Through generous donors and friends, the first $25,000 raised will be matched. Your support matters even more today. Until next year, walk with grace and kindness and give where you can.

Together we change lives.

Give a Dog a Job®

Founded in 1975, Canine Companions for Independence is a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of children, adults and veterans with disabilities by providing expertly-trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships.

The assistance dogs we breed, raise and train aren’t just the ears, hands and legs of their human partners. They’re also goodwill ambassadors and often, their best friends. They open up new opportunities and new possibilities, and spread incredible joy. We unite people with dogs in a powerful program that leads to greater independence and confidence.
